2014 edition

A beautiful edition on Île-aux-Moines

More than 160 sailors, including both familiar faces and newcomers, gathered for the Voiles du Froid 2014. Organised by Climalife, this 22nd edition also had faithful partners: Assurfroid, Clima+Confort, Eurovent Certification, GEA Heat Exchangers, HRS, Honeywell, ITE, Mobil Industrial Lubricants, La Rpf and Snefcca. For the first time, the meeting, which started from the port of Le Crouesty, took place on Ile aux Moines in the magnificent Gulf of Morbihan.

The six regattas took place around Île-aux-Moines, also rightly called “The Pearl of the Gulf”. Renowned for the quality of its waters, which combine beautiful landscapes and sporting conditions, the Gulf of Morbihan has seduced sailors from all over France and far beyond. Participants from Gabon joined the crews, some of whom represented different European countries such as Germany, Belgium, Finland, Great Britain or Holland…

Upon their arrival on Friday evening, participants were able to pick up a bike to ride around this 7.5 km long and 3.5 km wide island. It was also with their bikes that they were able to compete in the “Pierre à Terre” race on Saturday afternoon. This event offered a great opportunity to discover the landscapes and history of the island that is called “Izenah” in Breton language.

Nineteen boats were entered in the competition which, as last year, brought together Dufour 34s and First 36.7 with different handicaps. Luckily, the weather had been very gloomy the day before, but was much milder for the three days of racing, allowing the boats to sail in good conditions. Some even had the opportunity to catch the first sunburn of the season.

No Voiles du froid would be without warm encounters at sea or on land during moments that are propitious to exchanges between all the participants. In this spirit, the buffet under the stars, with the regional specialites brought along by everyone, always proves to be a “good” moment. Located at one of the points of the island, at the place called the Trec’h, guests were able to enjoy a jazz music formation. The Saturday lunch on board featured regional specialities from the south-west and Brittany, while the evening meal rhymed with gala dinners.
